Some more thoughts on beauty, the media, and the constant bombardment of photo-shopped perfection. The lies about who we are, who we should be, who we should strive to be like, and to look like.
YOU are made in the image of a perfect, living, holy, personal, and Almighty God. A God who is kind, gentle, faithful, loving, merciful, gracious, just, wise, compassionate, unchanging, and true.
You were made for a purpose. You were made in God's perfect image, so much more than mans shallow "perfection". You were made perfectly, more BEAUTIFUL than mans definition "beauty". God made you with a purpose and a plan that is bigger than mans greatest plans for you. Greater than you can even dream up.
God, in his perfection, formed you, breathed life into you. He made you, seeing the beginning from the end. Knowing you so deeply he knit you in your mother's womb. Promising that he will complete the work that he has begun in you. Loving you so perfectly, that he sent his Son to die for your transgressions, so that you can walk in victory. In HIS victory, with your head held high, not because of what you've done, but because of your Savior and what HE has done for you. Because of who you are in Christ. So that you can have communion with God, a relationship, a friendship. So that you can fulfill a purpose only you can fulfill, a purpose with fruit that will last throughout eternity. Fruit that will not fade with trends, will not grow old, will not die. Fruit that will honor God, and shine his light.
We can not let man/people/society define our worth, God has already done that, and sealed it with the blood of Christ. We are worth his only Son dying on the cross for us, rising again on the third day in victory. Don't devalue yourself, I do it all the time. Don't let society bring your value down to man's standard. You are worth more than that. You are a child of the King.
Do not let the LIES of man rob you of the peace and joy God has granted you freely, and longs for you to have.
"How kind they are."
So God created mankind in his own image,
in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. Gen 1:27
And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being. Gen 2:7
You don't have a soul. You are a soul. You have a body.- Attributed to CS Lewis but he probably didn't say it, because no one can find a source from him ;).
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2
Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Col 3:12
Surely He has borne our griefs
And carried our sorrows;
Yet we esteemed Him stricken,
Smitten by God, and afflicted.
But He was wounded for our transgressions,
He was bruised for our iniquities;
The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,
And by His stripes we are healed.
All we like sheep have gone astray;
We have turned, every one, to his own way;
And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all. Isaiah 53:4-6
But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith. I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead.
Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. Phil 3:7-14
"More Beautiful You"
Little girl fourteen flipping through a magazine
Says she wants to look that way
But her hair isn't straight, her body isn't fake
And she's always felt overweight
Well, little girl fourteen I wish that you could see
That beauty is within your heart
And you were made with such care, your skin, your body and your hair
Are perfect just the way they are
There could never be a more beautiful you
Don't buy the lies, disguises and hoops, they make you jump through
You were made to fill a purpose that only you could do
So there could never be a more beautiful you
Little girl twenty one the things that you've already done
Anything to get ahead
And you say you've got a man but He's got another plan
Only wants what you will do instead
Well, little girl twenty one you never thought that this would come
You starve yourself to play the part
But I can promise you there's a man whose love is true
And He'll treat you like the jewel you are
There could never be a more beautiful you
Don't buy the lies, disguises and hoops, they make you jump through
You were made to fill a purpose that only you could do
So there could never be a more beautiful you, more beautiful you
So turn around you're not too far
To back away be who you are
To change your path go another way
It's not too late, you can be saved
If you feel depressed with past regrets
The shameful nights hope to forget
Can disappear, they can all be washed away
By the one who's strong, can right your wrongs
Can rid your fears dry, all your tears
And change the way you look at this big world
He will take your dark distorted view
And with His light, He will show you truth
And again you'll see through the eyes of a little girl
That there could never be a more beautiful you
Don't buy the lies, disguises and hoops, they make you jump through
You were made to fill a purpose that only you could do
So there could never be a more beautiful you
There could never be a more beautiful you
