I don't know much when it comes to parenting, but what I do know is that if it works and isn't harmful- go with it... and this worked, and it worked well. Let me tell you the story.
Once upon a time there were two little princesses, ages 2 (Piglet) and 4 (Diva). Actually there was also a third princess, Pixie 5 months, but anyway. Piglet and Diva were playing one day and the Queens that were caring for them- yours truly and MIL, were so tired because the princesses had been sick and not sleeping well at night. The Queens were up often checking up on them throughout the night. So one afternoon the princesses were playing but the Queens wanted to nap- they were both so tired. So the girls mother said, "Let's play a game!" Now all little princesses love to play games, and these little girls were always wanting to play. They wanted to know what game it would be. The Queen/ mommy said that they were going to play a game called "The Princess and the Pea", the princesses loved this story so they knew all about it and knew it would be fun. All the Queen had in her pantry were dried pinto beans, so everyone got a bean and placed it underneath their mattress. Now all they had to do was fall asleep and see if they could feel the bean while they slept. It just so happened that three hours later the two little princesses woke up and both said they felt the bean under their mattresses. That, of course is no surprise since they were already princesses, but at least everyone got in a good nap.
